The history of the Mühle Vogelsang

Make do….

  • 1810 Family Halfen/Steffen took over the old mill property

  • 1870 until then, my ancestors had grounded grain with today’s functioning mill wheel

  • 1954 Willi Steffen established a seasonal wine tavern. He had been making wine for several years and guests could try local wines and eat light snacks The vineyard used to be behind the mill. We assume, that the wines must have been very fruity, fragrant with a good acidity. As you know, the beginning is the vineyard – the true source of a wine’s greatness. Moselle valley’s emphasis is on vineyards known for the excellence of their moderate climate, schist soils and management.

  • 1956 Willi Steffen established a camp site with approx. 50 pitches

  • 1978 Willi’s daughter Gisela took over the business together with her husband Erich. They decided to expand the camp site. They bought a few meadows and had finally about approx. 170 pitches. The old mill has been faithfully restored and redecorated. They converted the old barn nearby into five lovingly decorated en-suite holiday flats.

  • 2007 The next generation is already interested in keeping the business and the spirit alive. Erholungsgebiet Vogelsang is now in its third generation of management and over 200 years of ownership by the same family that constructed it some over 50 years ago. We are proud of the archieved results and we won’t rest on one’s laurels!
